Prior to April 2007, I had never heard of the term 'microstock photography'.  Once it was pointed out to me that any photographer, either amateur or professional, can join a site, commence uploading images, and earn anything ranging from a few extra dollars each year, to an entire living, I promptly set about joining a number of these sites.  I am sure that most of us want to earn a few extra dollars to help to pay for a new lens, some new equipment, or to put towards the next photography trip.  This was certainly the case with me.

During the first couple of years, I uploaded between 500 and 800 images to 22 microstock photography sites.  After observing the sales that I achieved on these sites for two or three years, I deleted my images from a couple of the sites where my images were not selling, and decided to concentrate on building up a large portfolio of images on the ones that were achieving average to very good sales for me each month.  I now have between 1300 and 2100 images on 18 sites, and these numbers keep growing as I add more images each year.

Why don't you give it a go?  I'm certainly glad I did!  Since uploading to these sites, I've earned thousands of dollars, which has helped me to purchase some prime lenses, and helped to pay for four photography trips to Europe.

Below are banners linking to the sites that I currently upload to.  Simply click on the banner and you’ll be taken to the site.  Once there, you’ll be able to view information on how to become a contributing photographer, as well as the criteria required.  After that, all you have to do is sign up, and commence uploading your images.  It is completely free!  All it is going to cost you is your time.
